I’m Dr. Jeffrey Rutstein

Headshot of Dr. Rutstein

for the past four decades, I’ve dedicated myself to training, supervising, and mentoring therapists and healing professionals. My approach integrates the art and science of psychotherapy, meditation, and personal transformation. The professional’s capacity for embodiment and presence is a primary healing ingredient. I support you being more sensitively attuned to your client, as well as your own needs and thus reducing burn-out. Being a therapist is a lifelong journey— filled with continuous learning, challenges, and growth. Throughout this journey, there will be times when you need support, guidance, or simply a new perspective to enhance your work and navigate the complexities of clinical practice.

The Value of Clinical Consultation and Mentoring

Clinical Consultation goes beyond skills acquisition; it involves nurturing your development as a practitioner. Consultation provides a space to reflect on your work, explore challenging cases, and deepen your understanding of therapeutic approaches. Whether you’re seeking to refine specific techniques, improve client outcomes, or process your reactions to complex cases, I’m here to guide you in a way that is supportive, collaborative, and grounded in decades of experience.

Who Can Benefit from My
Consultation and Mentoring?

I offer consultation and mentoring for professionals at all stages of their careers, whether you are just beginning your practice, transitioning into a new specialization, or are an experienced therapist looking for a fresh perspective. Learning to attune to your nervous system state as well as the client’s gives you access to the unspoken dimension within any therapeutic interaction.

My approach is especially beneficial for professionals working with:

  • Trauma and Dissociation: Understanding how to address the complex needs of clients experiencing trauma and dissociative symptoms.

  • Chronic or Terminal Illness and Chronic Pain: Supporting clients facing life-altering conditions with compassion and presence.

  • Anxiety and depression: Learning how to guide your clients to a more regulated state with practices and approaches that meet your client where they currently are.

Navigating the Therapist’s Journey

As therapists, we undertake a path that requires us not only to facilitate healing for others but also to grow and transform ourselves. Over time, you may encounter areas that are difficult to navigate, whether a particularly challenging client, ethical dilemmas, or personal triggers that arise in the therapeutic relationship. I’m here to help you work through these challenges and find a path that supports both your clients and your own well-being.

My Approach to Consultation and Mentoring

In my Consultation and Mentoring, I draw from the same principles that guide my therapeutic practice: traditional psychotherapy, somatic practices, Polyvagal-informed methods, mindfulness-based interventions, and neuroscience. This integrative approach not only focuses on developing therapeutic skills but also on helping you understand the broader context of your work. By deepening your awareness of your own reactions and the body’s role in therapy, you can enhance your ability to be fully present with clients, create a safer therapeutic space, and guide clients through their healing journeys.

I offer both individual and group consultation to accommodate different needs and learning styles. Sessions are conducted virtually.

Group consultation allows for shared learning and different perspectives, while individual consultation offers a more personalized focus on your specific challenges and goals.
